From The Depths

from the depthsFrom The Depths aims to preserve the memory of the Holocaust, to give a name to those who were brutally murdered in the dark days of the Holocaust, and to continue the message to the next generations of those who survived. From the Depths was set up to bridge the past to the future. The past has brought some tremendously dark and difficult times. However, rather than forget these difficult times we must learn from the past in order to shape and build a better future.

From The Depths also manages special events and projects that fulfill its organizational mission. The organization brought the largest ever delegation of Israeli lawmakers to visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Monday January 27th, 2014. Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett, Housing Minister Uri Ariel, Absorption Minister Sofa Landver, and Environmental Protection Minister Amir Peretz joined 60 Knesset members, over 100 Holocaust survivors (31 from Israel) and their families, as well as 250 prominent public figures including State Comptroller Yosef Shapira, Supreme Court Justice Elyakim Rubinstein, all traveled for one day to Poland to mark this years anniversary and take part in the commemorations. The group was led by the head of the opposition Isaac Herzog (Labor), and coalition head Yariv Levin (Likud-Yisrael Beytenu).

The Matzeva Project

The Matzeva Project uncovers, documents, and restores tombstones often hidden because they were used as building materials in towns and villages around Poland. The majority of the 1300 old Jewish cemeteries in Poland have been destroyed, neglected and forgotten. However beneath the ruble of memory, many old matzevas still exist. Finding these vandalized matzevas often act as an ice-breaker allowing the organization to uncover other hidden Jewish artifacts, unique sites such as dozens of previously unknown Jewish mass graves, and most recently the last remaining hideout used by Jews during the Holocaust.

The Torah Project

The Torah Project reclaims stolen, hidden, and often desecrated Torah scrolls throughout Poland, and brings them back to the use by the Jewish People.
